Gov. declares Aug. 13 'Purple Hearts for Healing Day'
Governor Scott Walker has issued a proclamation declaring August 13 as “Purple Hearts for Healing Day” across the state of Wisconsin. The day will honor the 12-year-old Slender Man stabbing victim from Waukesha.
Walker said her strength and determination have been an inspiration.
"Governor Walker had a great private conversation with this family, and he asked them, 'what can we do?'" explains family spokesperson, Steve Lyons. “The proclamation day came out today. We're very excited about it. The little girl is very excited about it as well."
Lyons said she'll be back to school on September 2, and she can't wait.
"The mom and dad put a list every week with groceries and what not, and at the bottom of the list, this little girl writes, 'school supplies.' She's very excited to get back to school," adds Lyons.
She's spent the summer boating, fishing, and going to numerous doctors’ appointments. Steve says, up to 10 in 1 week.
