Gov. Walker far outpacing opponent Mary Burke in fundraising efforts
MADISON -- Early reports show that Governor Scott Walker's campaign has raised nearly three times the amount of money that his opponent, democrat Mary Burke, has in the last half of 2013.
The Wisconsin State Journal says that Walker's campaign has amassed more than $5.1 million. Meanwhile Mary Burke's campaign is said to have raised aroun $1.8 million for her first statewide campaign.
Mike McCabe of the Wisconsin Democracy campaign says spending for the gubenatorial race will likely top the $40 million mark.
A spokesperson for Mary Burke's campaign criticized Walker's fundraising, saying the money is coming largely from out-of-state special interest groups.
Walker's spokesman fired back, noting that around 75 percent of the campaign contributions have come from private citizens giving $50 or less.
