KEWASKUM – Firefighters responded to a garage fire in Kewaskum early Monday morning. The call came in around 3:30 a.m. after the property owner was alerted by someone driving past. It happened near 18th and Highland drive in the Town of Kewaskum.

The fire started in an unattached four car garage on the property. It was quickly extinguished by members of the Kewaskum Fire Department along with assistance from the Boltonville, Campbellsport, Kohlsville and West Bend Fire Departments.

The Sheriff’s department reported an investigation into the cause of the fire revealed the garage had a “chicken coop” structure attached to it for housing waterfowl. The coop had electrical service to it and suffered most of the fire damage.

An exact cause for the fire remains under investigation, but officers said it didn’t appear to be suspicious in nature. The building was used for storage. No one suffered any injuries. It also appeared that all the waterfowl inside the coop were able to escape.
