Friends remember life of skydiver who died on weekend jump
RACINE - He died doing what he loved. Tuesday night, friends remembered Fred Platt, the Racine skydiver who died during a jump over the weekend.
Fred Platt, 44, was a former Navy Seal and avid skydiver. His parachute got tangled with a friend's chute in midair, causing a fatal landing. The friend only suffered minor injuries.
TODAY'S TMJ4 has learned Fred and his wife Stacy are expecting their first child in October. They had just found out that they are having a girl.
"He was so excited," says family friend, Sarah Rauschenbach. "It's going to take a long time to get over this. Certainly no one will ever forget him. I'm hoping in some way, the birth of his baby will bring some joy out of this tragedy."
Friends and family vow to make sure Fred's daughter grows up knowing who her father was. There will be a memorial service for him this Friday.
