Former soccer coach, teacher charged with sexual assault
OAK CREEK - A former soccer coach and special education teacher is charged with sexually assaulting a 14 year old girl at a motel in Oak Creek. He's also charged with trying to strangle and suffocate the girl.
His most recent coaching job was at the Croatian Eagles Club in Franklin. There are no reports of 39 year old Matt Barr doing anything inappropriate to children there, but it is something police are looking into.
Oak Creek police want parents to take a good look at this mug shot. Barr's accused in a violent attack at the Oak Creek Comfort Inn with a teen whose family trusted him. Police say Barr had sex with a 14 year old and when she screamed, he threw a pillow over her face.
"We hope that there's no other victims. We hope that this was a very isolated incident," said Detective Robert Michalski, Oak Creek police.
Police say the girl did not tell anyone what happened, then her mom found a text message from Barr, asking for a "naughty picture."
The fact that Barr has had contact with children, as both a soccer coach and as a special ed teacher has police concerned.
"Where there is one, there can be more," said Detective Michalski.
Barr has had a long history of coaching soccer clubs like SC Waukesha. A spokesman tells us they fired him after nine months (over two years ago) for inappropriate conduct with an adult. Barr also coached boy's soccer at Brookfield Central High School from 2003-2005 and Waukesha North High School from 2011-2012.
At the Croatian-Eagles Club, the president tells me he's very upset. They sent an email to parents alerting them to his arrest, and fired Barr right away.
Matt Barr remains in custody on a $10-thousand bond at the Milwaukee County Jail.
