Former school district employee accused of sexual assault
DE PERE - A man from De Pere is accused of sexually assaulting a teenager. Adam Mathewson recently worked as a volunteer for the West De Pere High School's marching band. He was employed by the district during the summer to assist with the school's band camp.
Matthewson was recently volunteering to help the band during practices and home games.
Court records show the victim's mother called police to report the alleged sexual relationship between the 16-year-old student and Mathewson.
According to the criminal complaint, a note entitled "100 reasons why I love you" led them to Mathewson. He admitted to a "bit of kissing and a little bit of touching."
"Mr. Mathewson worked for a brief period of time with the West De Pere School District marching band during the 2013 summer camp, but is no longer a District employee. The District places the safety of our students at the highest level of priority. In this instance, the District followed all protocols prior to hiring Mr. Mathewson for this limited term position, including the District’s standard background check process. At this time, the allegations against him are a law enforcement matter and appear unrelated to the school district; however we have been in communication with the De Pere Police Department and will continue to provide any assistance to them that we can, without hesitation."
