WALWORTH COUNTY - Steven Zelich sits behind bars right now at the Walworth County Jail, about five miles from where police said he hid two bodies in suitcases in the Town of Geneva.
Zelich was booked on two counts of hiding a corpse, according to the Walworth County Sheriff's Office.
A county lawnmower found the suitcases off the side of North Como road on June 5th - exactly three weeks ago. Police uncovered the bodies, then searched his home in West Allis on Wednesday.
"We were just asking, did you hear anything else? Have we gotten anywhere? " said Susan Thiel, who lives in the Town of Geneva. "It was an uneasy feeling...I just feel relief. I'm so glad it wasn't something that occurred here."
Zelich, 52, is a former West Allis cop.
Investigators report one suitcase hid the body of Laura Simonson, 37, of Minnesota. They haven't released the identity of the other female body, but detectives said they think she died before Simonson and is from Wisconsin.
Police in Rochester, Minnesota revealed today that Zelich and Simonson stayed at a motel there in November.  Hotel staff recognized that woman from a photo on the news after she was reported missing.
They also revealed that Zelich may have met both of the women online.
"To have someone with such a disregard for life, It leaves a lot of questions," said Carol Haskins, who works in the Town of Geneva. "But hopefully with the evidence they found they'll find something that will bring this to a conclusion."
Prosecutors expect to file charges tomorrow when Zelich appears in the Walworth County Court at 1:15 p.m.
