Father of Alexis Patterson charged with beating 8-month-old girl
MILWAUKEE – The father of a high-profile missing Milwaukee girl is behind bars, charged with assaulting another daughter.
Kenya Campbell, 40, is accused of severely beating an 8 ½ month old girl at his Milwaukee apartment.
Campbell is the biological father of Alexis Patterson, who disappeared in 2002. He was never ruled a suspect in the girl's disappearance. Now, he’s the prime suspect of a brutal assault, which took place in late November.
The baby's grandmother, who was home at the time, told investigators Campbell claimed the girl had fallen and split her lip.
When the woman found the child, she discovered the baby’s injuries were much more severe.
Doctors believe the girl was battered, finding a broken jaw, rib, and neck among other major injuries.
One doctor wrote it appeared the baby was the victim of a "massive, violent assault that could have easily resulted in death."
Campbell faces multiple counts of child abuse and neglect. He could spend the rest of his life in prison if convicted on all counts.
