Father and son share OWI connection
KEWASKUM - It was three in the afternoon when Kewaskum police were called to Fond du Lac Drive for a two-car crash. The female driver hit told officers she had been rear-ended.
"She was driving straight, driving the speed limit, and the vehicle just ran into her," says Police Chief Thomas Bishop.
The other driver was Keith Wiedmeyer. Chief Bishop says upon further investigation, it appeared Wiedmeyer was intoxicated.
"I smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle. We searched the vehicle and found marijuana."
This was Wiedmeyer's 5th OWI offense.
Wiedmeyer's repeat offense is only the tip of the iceberg. His son was sentenced for driving drunk and killing a West Bend woman at an intersection two years ago - an intersection that is less than half mile away from last Thursday's crash involving Wiedmeyer.
"The old adage that the apple does not fall too far from the tree unfortunately [is] what we are dealing with here. Clearly this is not his first offense and his son had some learned behavior. "
