Everything on a stick: Thoughts from State Fair Day 1
WEST ALLIS - If you want it, you can find it on a stick at the Wisconsin State Fair.
This year there are over 90 food-on-stick choices. Thursday night, we were on a mission to find some of the most interesting and exotic new additions to the menu. How about a PB & J deep fried on a stick from the Machine Shed?
If you’re looking for a hot dog with a twist, Tina Lawler with the Water Street Brewery introduces us to the Loaded twister dog.
“It is an all beef hot dog wrapped in a spiral potato, deep fried on a stick; topped with our own jalapeño pale ale, cheese wiz, mayo, sriracha ketchup, and topped with our own beer candy bacon.”
Sriracha and bacon, of course I had to try it. Scott Dooley at Knuckleheads served us what he calls Lug Nuts on a stick.
“Tatter tots wrapped in bacon, with jalapenos on a stick.”
For a little adventure, we made our way over to try a little gator on a stick at the exotic meat grill.
And if gator isn’t interesting your taste buds, why not try a bug sucker - yes, insects on a stick.
“We are one of the only countries in the world that doesn't eat bugs as their daily diet. They are very good for you and high in protein,” says Jessica Ellenbecker.
To end our day, we stopped at the sweet treat on a stick stand for a deep fried Snicker.
