Erosion forces Sheboygan crews to close two lanes of major bridge
SHEBOYGAN -- A big traffic heads up today for drivers through downtown Sheboygan.
Heavy rains -- and the lingering effects of a warsh winter -- battered the ground and drains, overwhelming the soil around the Pennsylvania Ave. bridge.
The bridge, one of the main arteries to downtown, now has two lanes blocked off because of the erosion and repair work.
"The danger is the soil that's been eroded has exposed those pavement panels on the street approaching the bridge," explained David Biebel, Sheboygan's public works director. "They don't have the support of the soil underneath the pavement."
Repair work has already started and Biebel expects the bridge to fully reopen by the weekend.
