ELM GROVE -- An officer is recovering after suffering from smoke inhalation during a fire in Elm Grove Tuesday night.
Police and fire crews responded to the blaze on Brojan Drive around 9 p.m.
The officer went into the burning house because first responders and neighbors were unsure if everyone inside the home evacuated, according to a release from the Elm Grove police.
Both occupants of the home exited safely and no injuries were reported. The officer was transported to a nearby hospital for observation.
Police said the fire may have started in a first floor den. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
