ELLISON BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Authorities are investigating damage to hundreds of cherry trees at a Door County orchard.

The Seaquist Orchard near Sister Bay reports the tops of 639 cherry trees were chopped off sometime between late Wednesday night and Thursday afternoon.

WLUK-TV reports the orchard is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the damage.

The orchard says on its Facebook page that the damage appears to have been done with hand pruning loppers, with the trees cut off about 18 inches above ground.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Door County Sheriff Department.
