Undercover video shows abuse of cows at dairy farm
MILWAUKEE - Disturbing video released Tuesday shows workers on a Wisconsin dairy farm brutally abusing cows.
The undercover video was taken by animal activist group Mercy For Animals in October of this year.
It shows cows at Wiese Brothers Farm beating, whipping, punching and dragging cows by the neck and legs with a tractor.
"There's no question these animal suffered horrific abuse and suffering." Said spokesman Ari Solomon.
Mercy For Animals has demanded one of Wiese Brothers Farm biggest customers DiGiorno Pizza stop doing business with the dairy. They're also asking the nations largest frozen pizza maker to require it's suppliers follow an standard of ethical treatment for animals.
DiGiorno's owner Nestle issued the following statement:
"Nestlé is outraged and deeply saddened by the mistreatment of animals shown in this video. We buy cheese from Foremost Farms which gets milk from the Wiese Brothers’ Farm. However, we do expect all of our suppliers and their suppliers to meet our stringent guidelines. We have advised Foremost Farms that we will not accept any cheese made with milk from the Wiese Brothers’ Farm."
In a late development, Foremost Farms has stated it has cut all ties with the Greenleaf dairy farm.
Milwaukee-based Palermos Pizza stated Tuesday they support Foremost's decision to cease all shipments from Wiese Brothers Farm.
The farm issued a statement saying they were unaware of the abuse. The say two workers have been fired and are cooperating in a Police investigation.
Wiese Brothers Farm has also pledged to implement new rules and guidelines to prevent future abuse of animals.
