FOND DU LAC, Wis. (AP) -- A Fond du Lac County Sheriff's deputy responsible for a 2012 crash that killed a 20-year-old man has paid the man's family about $14,000 for expenses related to the death.
The Reporter Media reports Ryan Flood presented the check to Matthew Koenigs' family after a Monday court hearing.
Flood has been ordered to pay forfeitures for traffic citations totaling more than $550 following the crash. He also will educate officers on the safe operation of emergency vehicles.
An investigation found Flood was going 80 to 92 mph moments before he struck Koenigs' vehicle. Flood had been on his way to a hit-and-run call.
He apologized to Koenigs' family in court.
Koenigs' mother, Sarah Koenigs, says her son would not want her to stay angry.
