Deadly shooting in Oak Creek

OAK CREEK - A quiet Oak Creek neighborhood is in shock, after a man kills his wife then turns the gun on himself.
But, that man survived and is being treated at Froedtert Memorial Hospital.
Police officers and ambulances swarmed the house on the 1100 block of West Wayland Avenue around 2 p.m. Wednesday, after the man called 911 saying he had shot his wife and himself inside.
Neighbors watched the chaos unfold.
"I saw the man come out and fall to the ground," said neighbor Martha With. "Later, I saw paramedics take a gurney in and out. I knew it wasn't good. You could tell something very bad happened."
Now, the tight-knit community is wondering why this happened.
"It's hard to accept because they were both good Christians," said Bill Weber, who lives next door to the couple. "They were really good people...maybe he was in pain and he couldn't take it anymore, I just don't know...they've been dealing with major health issues..."
Weber said the couple has two sons who live out of state. They were planning to put their house up for sale and move into a retirement home this spring.
Now, despite this horrible tragedy, neighbors hope the couple gets some peace.
"My heart goes out to them, it really does," Weber said. "They were really good neighbors. I couldn't ask for better neighbors."
The husband's condition at Froedtert is unknown.
