MADISON-- Dane County emergency managers estimated damage from this week's severe weather at more than $15 million.

County Executive Joe Parisi said tornadoes in Verona and Madison Tuesday and severe weather in eastern Dane County Wednesday damaged more than 250 homes and several businesses and public buildings. Two homes were destroyed beyond repair.

Public buildings include Country View Elementary in Verona, where a lot of school supplies were swept away.

Each year the teachers at County View receive grants to buy supplies or special materials. This year that money won't be enough, so the Parent Teacher Organization created an online fundraiser to collect funds for teachers and families affected.

The county has passed its estimate to state officials who will decide whether to apply for federal aid.
