MILWAUKEE - The BloodCenter of Wisconsin is in critical need of platelet donors. The organization is preparing for a drop in platelet donor appointments over the next few days because of the bitter cold temperatures in the forecast.

In order to ensure an adequate supply, the BloodCenter encourages platelet donors to keep their scheduled appointments. New donors are also encouraged to schedule appointments.

Platelets are critical in many situations--from restoring needed blood cells in cancer patients, to helping trauma patients recover from life-threatening injuries, and helping patients with fatal blood disorders continue to thrive.

Platelets can be used for just five days, and because of this, the need for donations is consistently great.

BloodCenter of Wisconsin donor centers will be open during regularly scheduled hours this weekend and on Monday.

Please schedule an appointment at 1-877-BE-A-HERO or visit the BloodCenter website.
