Court: Insurer exempt in Wis. shooting death
OCONTO FALLS, Wis. (AP) -- An appeals court has upheld a decision exempting an insurance company from having to pay after a man accidentally killed a friend in Oconto County three years ago.
Nineteen-year-old Shawn Dobry was killed in 2010 by Jordan Walker, who's now 22. Prosecutors say Walker was playing with his handgun when it went off, killing Dobry.
Walker was convicted of homicide by negligent handling of a dangerous weapon. He was sentenced to five years in prison.
Dobry's family sued Walker and his parents. A county court ruled that the Walkers' homeowner insurance policy didn't cover the shooting because it was a criminal act, not an accident.
