Contest winners ready to head to Sochi 2014
WAUWATOSA - An Olympic adventure of a lifetime starts Wednesday for a Wauwatosa couple.
They're leaving for Sochi and to say they're excited is an understatement.
"I'm already to go," said Mary Pat Rohde. She has her GO USA gloves and everything else packed for the long journey to Sochi with her husband Greg.
They even learned a little Russian. "Do svidaniya, that means good bye," said Rohde.
The Rohdes won the Olympic Adventure of a Lifetime trip by watching TODAY'S TMJ4 in November.
John Malan dropped by to deliver the good news.
"First thing I did when we won the trip was look up the climate. In February, Sochi is in the 40's and 50's," said Rohde.
They have tickets to the opening ceremony, ski jumping, hockey, ice skating and speedskating where they can cheer on some local athletes. The Rohdes won't be hard to find in the crowd of USA fans.
"They've been telling the athletes not to advertise they're from the states. I've got a Wisconsin fleece and Packers jacket," said Rohde.
But more than anything the Rohdes are looking forward to just soaking it all in, while in Sochi.
"We are basically at one event a day but I'm looking forward to just walking around and maybe meeting the athletes."
The Rohdes "to Russia" will be part of our Olympic coverage, starting Thursday. You can see and hear more about their adventures, right here on TODAY'S TMJ4.
