Construction at Mitchell International forces closure of arrivals area
MILWAUKEE - Changes at General Mitchell International are having a big impact on people flying in to and out of the airport.
A construction project to rebuild baggage claim has shutdown the section of the airport where arriving passengers use to be picked up.
Harold Mester with Mitchell International tells me additional signage has been put up to direct drivers and passengers to the correct location.
"We have a temporary pickup area for passengers to meet their parties, it's actually the back side of the current baggage claim." Mester said.
Drivers will now be funneled to the same area, which will create traffic congestion and delays at peak travel times.
Officials are asking drivers meeting passengers to park in the parking garage and walk inside to reduce congestion.
They'll now provide one hour of free parking.
There will be no changes in locations for passengers catching shuttle buses or other ground transportation.
