Cold weather freezes start of high school spring sports
BROOKFIELD - The season's on ice because the fields are frozen.
Continued cold weather has postponed - and even canceled - several games on the spring sports calender in everything from soccer to softball.
"I want nothing more than for the season to get started," Brookfield East senior Megan Roidt quips to TODAY'S TMJ4. "There's nothing better than finishing school and going outside and feeling that fresh air. Now I finish school and stay in the same building all day."
Snow-covered fields and courts have kept nearly 400 student athletes at Brookfield East High School indoors. The conditions have also created a turf war among the different teams for the limited indoor practice space.
The sports affected include girls softball, girls soccer, boys baseball, and track and field.
Next week, tennis and golf are supposed to get underway. They'll only start, however, if the weather cooperates.
