Clerk allegedly claims man's lottery winnings as her own
EAU CLAIRE - A 65-year-old man from Eau Claire won $10,000 in the lottery and kept waiting for his check to arrive in the mail. But when he called the lottery office, he found out someone else had claimed his prize.
“I called the lottery office and asked them ‘what's going on?’” he said. “I don't get the money yet. They tell me somebody else cashed it. I say ‘what??’”
It turns out that the man had taken the ticket to a convenience store and asked the clerk to help him mail the winning ticket. Police say the woman and her boyfriend cashed the ticket and kept the money.
The couple is now facing felony charges, but it’s still unclear if the man will get his money.
