Class in session year-round for La Crosse elementary school
While summer is on the mind of most kids here in Wisconsin, some students in La Crosse are already back in school.
In 2013, Hamilton Elementary School changed to a year-round schedule, and Principal Steve Michaels says it's already showing significant results.
"The number of students who regressed is in the single digits as opposed to 60 percent. So we have virtually wiped out that 'summer slide' that we were so concerned about."
He adds that students seem to be adjusting well to the six-week summer.
"It's been a nice time off of school, but it hasn't been so long that they forgot the teachers, and routines, and rules, and expectations, and lunch numbers, all that stuff."
