Clarke speaks at NRA event
INDIANAPOLIS -- Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke was one of the featured speakers at the opening of the National Rifle Association's annual convention on Friday.
Clarke told NRA members he opposes any efforts to restrict the rights of gun owners, including limits on magazine capacity and background checks.
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett's office issued a statement condemning Clarke's speech, accusing Clarke of "grandstanding" for special interests while showing "no interest in getting illegal guns off the streets."
Potential Republican presidential candidates also spoke at the event on Friday.
