Clarke, Moews face off in primary for Milwaukee County Sheriff
MILWAUKEE - David Clarke and Chris Moews are squaring off Tuesday in the Democratic primary for Milwaukee County Sheriff.
It could be the closest race Sheriff Clarke, on the job for 12 years, has ever faced. About $600,000 was spent by two groups on ads against the sheriff, one of them a gun safety group run by former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
Moews, a longtime Milwaukee Police Lieutenant, has been preparing for this night ever since he lost to Sheriff Clarke in the 2010 election. It was a very small margin of victory back then - Clarke had 53 percent of the votes, while Moews had 47 percent.
