MILWAUKEE - June is national Men's Health Month and an event to celebrate it and raise awareness gets underway in Milwaukee Tuesday morning.

"It's widely believed that men, in general, don't care about their health, at least not the way that women do," said Eric Von, founder of the men's health website Brain Brawn & Body.  "One of our major objectives is to dispel that rumor, dispel that myth, and help people to understand that men do care."
Von's focus is on the health of African American men and their families.
"But I think that when you address the issues that African American men suffer from, we really are addressing the issues that all men suffer from: hypertension, diabetes, heart disease."
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, Commissioner of Health Bevan Baker, Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare, and others will be on hand to kick off Men's Health Month at City Hall.  The event starts at 11:30.
