Church receives generous donation after collection box theft
MILWAUKEE - An update now on a story about an east side church robbed of thousands of dollars. There’s a new twist that turns this case around.
Pastor Randy Knie has been humbled by the support he's received after our story aired about someone stealing the offering box from Brew City Church Sunday.
"Really, the most encouraging thing has been seeing people's response to what happens when you have a heart of forgiveness, reconciliation, and blessing those who've hurt you."
There's still no sign of the box or the money that was inside. But the story tugged at the heartstrings of a generous viewer who wanted to make it right. When he met TODAY’s TMJ4’s Annie Scholz in our lobby he made it clear he didn't want credit. He just wanted an envelope to get to the church, with something very special inside – $2,000.
“That's unbelievable," exclaims Knie. "That's amazing!"
$2,000 -- the same amount that was stolen by one stranger, has come back thanks to the kindness of another.
"I would tell them that God uses them to bless us and bless our community and bless the city. What a remarkable blessing, it's overwhelming."
There will be a new, more secure, offering box in place for Sunday's services, which the pastor thinks will now be packed.
