Bus fire disrupts trip for children visiting from London
WASHINGTON COUNTY - A burned out shell is all that is left of a charter bus filled with school children.
Jenelle Dunkley and Shante Tyndall were in the back of the coach were the fire started.
"Smoke just started to appear and it got all foggy and condensation was on the window and stuff," recalls Shante Tyndall.
A TODAY'S TMJ4 viewer driving along Highway 41 near Richfield captured images moments after the bus exploded into flames.
"We had a blow out, all of a sudden the driver went to inspect it there was some panic," said Ian Johnson, a chaperone.
Johnson says a quick decision was made to evacuate the bus.
"The fire just started to go up and up."
The kids, all the way from London, were traveling from Oshkosh after attending an international Pathfinder's camping event.
While everyone escaped unharmed, many lost their belongings - some even losing their passports in the blaze.
Yet in the midst of it all, the children say they are grateful.
"We thank God we were saved."
