Burke blasts tax plan
MADISON -- Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mary Burke is criticizing the possibility of eliminating the state's income tax. Governor Walker is exploring that possibility.
But Burke says the matching sales tax to shore up the difference would exceed 13%.
“80% of the people of Wisconsin would be paying more taxes under this plan,” Burke said Tuesday.
“The only people [who would pay less] less are the highest 20% people, in terms of income.”
She added that businesses along the state borders could be especially hard-hit, with residents crossing state lines to pay lower taxes.
