Boy shot in Walworth County declared brain dead, police ID victim

SHARON -- A boy who was shot in the head in Walworth County Wednesday afternoon has been declared brain dead, the deputy coroner for the Walworth County medical examiner confirmed to TODAY'S TMJ4.

The boy was identified as Eric Gutierrez, age 11, from the Town of Sharon, according to the Walworth County Sheriff's Office.  
 
The shooting happened around 12:30 p.m. in a wooded area behind N1602 County Trunk Highway K in the Town of Sharon.  
 
Police said two boys were in a wooded area when a gun went off. Police will not say who pulled the trigger. Investigators have interviewed a 13-year-old male witness.
 
A handgun has been located and collected along with other pieces of evidence.

The family of the victim has established a donation website to offset the unexpected costs.
