WASHINGTON, DC -- Starting today, the Boy Scouts of America will allow openly gay scouts into the organization for the first time.

BSA’s national council voted last May to allow the change. The decision led some members to form a new organization called "Life Trail USA." It's basically the same as the Boy Scouts, except it bans openly gay members.

The Boy Scouts are maintaining their ban on gay adult leaders.
