MILWAUKEE - The Blood Center of Wisconsin is kicking off a summer blood donation effort this Wednesday called "You to the Rescue" at their Milwaukee Donor Center.

Donors are encouraged to make appointments before coming in order to help the Center reach its goal of 300 appointments by the end of the day.

In order to raise awareness about the critical need for summer donations, first responders, firefighters, police officers, and paramedics will be on hand at the event in partnership with the Blood Center. Uniformed first responders will also be answering phone calls from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at the event to help schedule appointments and answer questions.

Anyone who is 17 or older and in generally good health is eligible to donate. Potential donors should call 866-61-BLOOD to schedule an appointment and bring a photo I.D. with birth date on the day of donation.
