Bewley announces campaign to replace Jauch
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Democratic state Rep. Janet Bewley, of Ashland, is running for the state Senate to replace retiring Sen. Bob Jauch, also a Democrat.
Bewley became the first candidate for the district when she announced Monday.
Jauch is a 31-year veteran of the Legislature but is not seeking another term next year. The 67-year-old Jauch was first elected to the Senate in 1986 after serving four years in the Assembly.
The 25th Senate district covers 7,500 square miles in northwestern Wisconsin along the Minnesota border and the shore of Lake Superior.
Both Bewley and Jauch have been outspoken opponents of a proposed iron ore mine in the Penokee Hills.
Bewley was first elected to the Assembly in 2010.
