MILWAUKEE - People in northwest Wisconsin say recent run-ins with bears have prompted them to take action.

People say they are worried after a bear mauled a man back in June. The city is now asking the state Department of Natural Resources for help to curb the growing population.

The agency says it's doing what it can, which includes raising the number of permits for this year's bear hunt by 25 percent.
