Basement fire damages condo complex in Fond Du Lac

 FOND DU LAC -- People in at least two condo untis in a complex in Fond Du Lac will need to find a new place to stay after a fire started in the basement of a condo complex.

Firefighters from Fond Du Lac and neighboring areas responded to a call of thick smoke coming from a building on University Avenue. 

Two units were deemed uninhabitable, and smoke damage was seen in several units of the eight condo building.

Residents of the condo complex were able to get out without injury. 

According to Fond Du Lac Fire Chief Peter O'Leary, the fire appears to be an accident and related to electrical equipment in the basement. 

The Red Cross is assiting the displaced residents with living arrangements.
