MILWAUKEE -- The cold weather in Wisconsin is creating health concerns for people who need to go out in the bitter temperatures.

Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare All Saints says they've already seen some patients come in for signs of frostbite.

Dr. Wyatt Jaffe spoke with Today's TMJ4 and said there are three warning signs when frostbite is setting in:

  • early pain and numbness
  • blanching of the skin
  • loss of circulation

He added that eventually people won't feel any pain at all. He said that's the point when frostbite is most serious.

Beyond not covering skin properly in cold weather, other factors like alcohol, getting wet, and touching metals can make frostbite conditions worse.
