Need free cash? There's an app for that.
MILWAUKEE - These days, if you want just about anything, chances are some company will pop-up and say, we have an app for that.
What if what you want, is free cash?
Believe it or not, there's an app for that, too. In fact, more than one and it's in the palm of your hands.
Bev Medcalf is a mom and works a full-time job.
She owns a smartphone and is one of many people turning to apps for the first time to make money on the side.
"In the last year I've made close to $300, I'm getting ready to cash out about another $75. Don't make a whole bunch of money at my job, so anything helps," says Mecalf.
Medcalf says her choice of apps includes: Swagbuckstv and Ibotta - which are free.
Swagbucks is pretty simple, it gives you money when you complete certain tasks.
She only spends 15 minutes each day on the apps.
Her other favorite is the Ibotta app, which is a slightly different than Swagbuckstv. It's a form of couponing. But like Swagbuckstv, Ibotta will pay you for certain tasks, such as taking a poll or posting to facebook. You also have to go out and buy a product listed before you are paid for the tasks. Unlike a traditional coupon of getting a price cut, Ibotta pays in cash.
Medcalf says Ibotta pays her through her Paypal account, but some pay with checks, and even with gift cards. But she says do your research before you commit to your next payday with your phone.
