Thai spot has some things to clean up
MILWAUKEE - A Thai spot on Milwaukee's east side, not even open a year, has some things to clean up. Here's what health inspectors found.
It's "The Elephant Cafe" on Farwell, a few blocks south of Brady. The cooks handled fresh spring rolls and other food ready for customers to eat with their bare hands. No one was there to comment, but a manager did call us back. She says her employees always use gloves, but it was a busy lunch hour and the cooks were flustered by the inspector.
Containers of cooked meat were not marked with a date or were past the seven day shelf life. The manager claims the meat was being thrown out, not served to customers. The inspector noted some areas are overdue for cleaning. - like shelves in the kitchen, the floor in a walk-in cooler, and the basement.
Employees were also ordered to keep personal items out of food areas. The manager called that an "easy fix."
Also cleaning things up - Phoenix Bar and Restaurant in Hartland. Fish was not being thawed safely and an employee was handling customers' food without gloves.
And this week's Blue Ribbon mention goes to Crabby's Bar & Grill on Oklahoma and KK for its spotless inspection.
