Brew City Flood: FEMA Tours Falls YMCA

By Melissa McCrady and Tim Lethlean

MENOMONEE FALLS - Inspectors with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) were on-site at the YMCA in Menomonee Falls on Friday.

The Brew City Flood on July 22nd left the lower level of the structure ruined as 3 feet of water rushed in.  Two gymnasiums, 2 racquetball courts, an equipment room, a yoga room, and 5 locker rooms were destroyed.

Geoffrey Mertens is the YMCA's director and says everything that came in contact with water had to be replaced.

He's hoping the YMCA facility will be eligible for federal funding to recover from the massive flooding.

"It's too early to tell what they're going to decide but it's a great sign they're [FEMA] here and possible help in the future," said Mertens.

The YMCA in Menomonee Falls is open; although the lower level is closed until the rehab work is completed.
