Brew City Flood: No Guarantee of Fed Relief

  • Print

MILWAUKEE - FEMA crews are going back to surveying parts of Milwaukee County on Thursday morning, trying to figure out if the area qualifies for a federal disaster declaration because of flood and storm damage.

Teams have gone to Franklin, Greendale, Milwaukee and Hales Corners, but so far, FEMA external affairs officer Marquita Hynes tells 620WTMJ's "Wisconsin's Morning News" that the disaster declaration is not a slam dunk.

"I think it is too soon to say at this point, it really is, but we'll do as much as we can," said Hynes.

"We'll be here as long as it takes.  Having said that, we will try to wrap this up by the end of the week because we want to be expeditious in this."

Hynes says crews will look at more damage in Greenfield, Wauwatosa, and at Nicolet High School on Thursday.

She says FEMA considers things like threats to health and safety, government cost, insurance coverage and displaced residents as they tally storm totals.
