Brew City Flood: FEMA Inspects North Shore

  • Print

SHOREWOOD - While two FEMA crews inspected the city of Milwaukee, two others were taking a look at the suburbs. The inspections are being conducted after last week's flooding damaged so many homes.

Many Milwaukee County residents do not have flood coverage included in their insurance plans and are looking to FEMA to help recover what they have lost.

Edith McPhearson, a resident of Shorewood which sustained considerable damage, had replaced her hot water heater following the flood earlier this month and has now lost all her appliances.

"I don't have flood insurance," said McPhearson "I would like FEMA aid. This time, I need it."

When asked exactly what FEMA will be assessing, FEMA team leader Colleen Finkl stated that it was more than just the monetary impact.

"We look at the damage to homes, but we also look at the impacts to communities and what it'll take to get those communities back on their feet," said Finkl.

The inspections are expected to wrap up sometime next week.
