SUV Removed From East Side Sinkhole

  • Print

MILWAUKEE - After more than 24 hours in a sinkhole that swallowed it during Thursday's storms, crews have finally removed an SUV from the hole.

Workers used a crane to remove the Cadillac Escalade late Friday night.  The SUV had been in gear and running for most of the day Friday.

Getting the SUV out is the first step in what will be a lengthy process to fix the area.  It could take as long as six weeks for workers to shore up the ground, fix the utilities under it, and then repave the street.

The city believes a problem with a combined sewer that runs under the street in the area led to the sinkhole.
