Miller Park Way Flooded; Baseball Still On

  • Print

MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee County Sheriff's Deputies were forced to close Miller Park Way immediately in front of Miller Park for hours Thursday evening after torrential rains left a pond across the roadway.  Drivers were forced to turn around and head backwards on the highway to avoid the water.

In 2009, a flood across the same stretch of road also led to water flowing into the southeast delivery dock entrance to Miller Park.  The water inundated the service level and damaged some key electrical equipment.

This time, though, Miller Park stayed largely dry.

"The Department of Transportation came back out in the spring and built up a berm right outside one of our parking lots," said Brewers' spokesperson Tyler Barnes.  "It really did its job tonight and spared us any major flooding."

Barnes admits some offices still get a little water when there's heavy rain, but that won't impact Friday's evening matchup of the Milwaukee Brewers versus the Washington Nationals.

He's confident no matter what type of weather could be on its way between now and game time, "Miller Park is in great shape and is ready for anything Mother Nature wants to toss its way right now."
