Charter School Teacher Arrested For Sexual Assault

  • Print

MILWAUKEE – Officers arrested a teacher Monday suspected of sexually abusing a girl at the Alliance School of Milwaukee. The 17-year-old student told investigators the man abused her in the school after class, police said.

The MPS charter school has received national attention as a safe haven for openly gay students and children victimized by bullies.

The girl told her parents what happened and they went to investigators, police said.

“Teachers should never engage in sex with their students,” said Maryann Clesceri, executive director of the Healing Center. “There can never be a consensual sexual relationship.”

A teacher facing accusations like this will probably be suspended without pay, a Milwaukee Public Schools spokesperson said. By district policy, the teacher would immediately be removed from the classroom. However, school is not in session.

Tina Owen, the school’s lead teacher, said off camera that she is stunned by the arrest, but that she cannot comment on the details of the personnel issue.

TODAY’S TMJ4 is not identifying the teacher because he’s not been charged.  The Milwaukee County District Attorney's office is reviewing the case.
