Cougar Spotted on Milwaukee's South Side

  • Print

MILWAUKEE - A cougar may be on the prowl in Milwaukee.

"I thought it, I thought it was the end you know? I mean I thought he was going to leap," says Carl Slaski.

Slaski is an early riser. Wednesday morning just before 3 he was at Honey Dip Donuts to get a cup of coffee. Out in the parking lot, he ended up eye to eye with what looked like a cougar.

Carl came out of the donut shop, near 27th and Grange, to get in his car. As he attempted to get in the driver's side, he saw the cougar right in front of him. Both of them froze, and then the cougar took off.

Diamond Jim's Car Dealership, which is across South 27th Street, had a surveillance camera pointed at the parking lot when Carl came outside. It captured some sort of shadowy creature in the parking lot.

Carl told his wife Gloria about the encounter. "He said baby I thought I'd never see you again," adds Gloria.

The DNR says the big cats have been migrating from the Dakotas. The last time a cougar was spotted in southeast Wisconsin was January of 2008.
