Driver Arrested in Crash at Milwaukee Hospital

MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee Police have arrested a man in the case of a car crash at a hospital on Milwaukee's north side which caused injuries to a woman who was last listed in critical condition.

Two children were injured in the crash, a six-month-old girl who is in serious condition and a one-year-old boy who was also hurt in the crash.

It happened at about 11:00 p.m. Monday night at Wheaton Franciscan St. Joseph's Hospital, on the 5100 block of West Burleigh Street in Milwaukee.

According to police:

The driver of the car was traveling eastbound on West Burleigh Street near 51st Street when he ran a red light and swerved to avoid another car.

The driver's car then hit a large brick pillar at St. Joseph's.  The driver then took off from the scene.

Officers say the children were in their car seats, but they were not properly attached.

There is no word on whether the driver was drunk or whether he was driving the car at a high rate of speed.
