Firefighter Charged For Stealing Gear, Selling It On eBay

TOWN OF SHEBOYGAN - Town of Sheboygan volunteer firefighter Jamie Jochmann is accused of some brazen thefts, including stealing the batteries out of defibrillators and stealing the savings of someone with down syndrome.

Investigators say while Jochmann was fighting fires with the fire department, he was also swiping his own department’s equipment and selling it on eBay. He allegedly sold uniforms, defibrillators, defibrillator batteries, and emergency lights. In total, more than $20,000 dollars worth of firefighter gear was reported stolen.

“We’re a small township, but fire equipment is very expensive,” said Town of Sheboygan Chair Daniel Hein.

Jochmann wouldn’t comment to TODAY’S TMJ4, but according to court documents, he told deputies he stole because he lost his other job. The town is now working to replace the equipment needed to save lives and protect firefighters.

“We have insurance, we’re covered for it. Then we’ll just go about starting to replenish the equipment that was stolen,” Hein said.

The accusations against Jochmann don’t end there, however. A woman claims Jochmann stole from her home while he was doing repair work for her. Deputies think he stole an iPod, a GPS device, and even the $500 savings of the woman’s son, who has Down syndrome. Jochmann denies the home thefts.

“This is bad enough, what he did to the Town of Sheboygan. But if this really happened, that’s terrible,” said Daniel Hein.

Jochmann has been fired from his job as a volunteer firefighter. If convicted, he could face a maximum of 10 years behind bars.
