A 27-year-old Fredonia man sought in a fatal hit-and-run crash had been drinking for several hours prior to the crash and was in the country illegally, according to the criminal complaint filed against him.
Eddie Carbajal-Lile was charged in Sheboygan County Circuit Court with hit and run resulting in death, a felony charge that carries penalties of up to 15 years in prison and a $100,000 fine.
He is accused of running a stop sign Tuesday night in the town of Lima and hitting a car with three teenagers inside, killing Paul Watry, 17, of Port Washington.
The criminal complaint filed Thursday night and released Friday quoted a friend of the defendant as saying that Carbajal-Lile had consumed five or six beers.
Capt. Dave Adams of the Sheboygan County Sheriff's Department said investigators believe Carbajal-Lile may attempt to flee the country.
