Five Arrests, Possible Love Triangle in Four Connected Murders

By Charles Benson with Jay Sorgi

MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee police have arrested five people in the mystery of four connected murders, including those of a mother and two children.

Police say they know who's responsible for killing the four people.

But there is still one big unanswered question: why?

Two young women and two children are dead. Five people are under arrest.

Police Chief Edward Flynn says those arrests were made over the past two days. He won't say anything about suspects or a motive.

Still, the heartbroken families of the victims want to know why this happened.

Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm says there appears to have been a love triangle between Rachel Thompson and Brittney Robertson, but how that unraveled into a violent end is still being worked out.

On Monday evening, family and friends returned to the murder scene at South 12th and West Walker where there is now a memorial filled with flowers, loving messages and memories of better days.

"It's sad like two babies and a woman who barely got to start living her life, that's real sad," said neighbor Jamie Wilson.

Rachel Thompson, 23, lived there with two sons, 4-year-old Torian Thompson-Carter and 3-year-old Jaden Thompson-Carter.

A former neighbor remembers Rachel as a mother who wanted the best for her children.

"She was a loving mother. She worked hard for her children," said Iraida Bablitch.

There were lots of tearful hugs for Tina Thompson.

She adopted Rachel after Rachel's mother and grandmother were murdered. For Rachel's sister Alexis, the loss is unbearable.

"Everybody here knew her, everybody loved her," said Alexis. "I loved her. I loved those boys."

During the emotional vigil news spread that an arrest had been made in the case and that brought some relief for the family.

"It's OK now," said Rachel's brother Macial Moreno. "They caught everybody they need to catch and they are going to rot for it."

Charges are under review. The Milwaukee County District Attorney's office isn't sure if all five in custody will be charged with homicide.

A fund has been set up to help pay for the Thompson funeral. Donations can be made at any TCF Bank to the Rachel, Torian and Jaden memorial fund.
